This year's Harvard Alumni Association's Global Series symposium, convening in New Delhi, India, promises to be both exciting and informative.
South Asia is home to one of the world's foremost and longest-lasting civilizations, has given rise to two of the world's great religions, and has made enormous contributions to world literature and the arts from ancient to modern times. India alone, with more than a fifth of the world's population, is becoming one of the major economies of the twenty-first century. As ties between the United States and South Asia continue to strengthen, it is paramount for our scholars to devote greater attention to identifying and addressing the issues that affect the region and, by extension, the rest of the world.
The conference will bring together a remarkable group of accomplished faculty, alumni panelists, and regional speakers whose work focuses on South Asia. They will share their ideas on important issues, including economic prosperity, health care, governance, science, and technology.
We believe this conference will offer a unique opportunity for you to learn from Harvard experts and to network with alumni who live and work in South Asia.
I hope you will join us at the HAA Global Series symposium in New Delhi. I look forward to seeing you there.
Lawrence H. Summers
President, Harvard University
